Family members and supporters of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said Putrajaya must allow the former opposition leader to undergo surgery overseas, adding that they no longer trust the treatment done in Malaysia.

PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said this was because Anwar has been denied the basic physiotherapy treatment for his shoulder injury.
“We want confirmation... for at least to get the basic physiotherapy treatment. The physiotherapy session is to reduce his pain and prepare for better surgical procedure.
“This is a salvage operation, that's why physiotherapy before and after an operation is important,” she said at the launch of “Jelajah Mock Prison #BebasAnwar” in Kuala Lumpur.
"We don't trust the system here, because even the attorney general can be transferred without his knowledge,” she said.
Anwar’s daughter, Nurul Izzah also urged Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to keep the promise he made in Dewan Rakyat last week that Anwar would receive intensive physiotherapy treatment.
“It has been four days but no doctor has visited Anwar in prison.
“The issue is not only about the operation but also to provide facility for him to undergo physiotherapy.
“We are not enjoying the elements of good faith,” she told reporters.
Family and lawyers have been urging Putrajaya to provide swift medical treatment for Anwar, who is suffering from weight loss, irregular blood pressure, a growth in the kidney, gastritis, arthritis and a shoulder muscle tear.
He is serving a five-year jail term in Sungai Buloh prison after the Federal Court upheld his sodomy conviction in February.
Anwar’s lawyer R. Sivarasa said the reason they did not trust the country’s system was because Anwar was denied basic treatment, such as physiotherapy.
“We don’t trust the system because they can deny Anwar basic treatment like physiotherapy.
“If there is going to be a major surgery, we demand that it be done overseas.”
The #BebasAnwar committee today launched a Mock Prison Tour at Anwar’s official residence, to symbolise his detention.
“This home behind us, signifies Anwar’s freedom and (the) prison signifies how his freedom was arbitrarily taken away from him,” the roadshow coordinator Adrian Lim said, adding that the tour would begin in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, before going nationwide.
“We also urge the public to help us in this campaign by signing the free Anwar petition because Anwar Ibrahim has sacrificed his life to fight for Malaysians.”– November 8, 2015.
