'Umno's 3 million support me' is Najib’s hallucination

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak must have been hallucinating on his claim that he has the support of Umno's three million members.

Langkawi Umno delegate Anina Saaduddin, who is under the spotlight after her vitriolic speech against Najib, said this when elaborating on her speech at her division’s delegates meeting, a video of which has since gone viral on social media.

"When Najib said that he has the support of three million Umno members, what  is that based on? A poll, a meeting?

"For me, it is deception. I ask that Umno members send him (Najib) to a doctor because he might be hallucinating. He does not realise what he says and what he does," Anina told Malaysiakini.

Anina also stressed that she was not the only one who has been talking about the party's internal crisis, claiming that there were thousands who were doing as well.

The feisty woman sarcastically added that should 10 Umno members be asked about their confidence in Najib's leadership, 12 would say that they have no confidence in him.

Anina also said the party's decision to postpone the party elections for 18 months from next year was proof that Najib was not confident in garnering the support of the Umno members.

"On what basis does Najib say that three million Umno members support him when the Umno elections have been postponed to 2018?

"How does he know that the support of party members is permanent? If the elections are postponed, this means that he is not confident of defending his post if the elections are held next year," she said.

In announcing the postponement of the elections, Najib had said that it was to further strengthen the party. Nevertheless, Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has admitted that it was postponed due to the current political crisis.

Anina said the recent sacking of former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin as well as former rural and regional development minister Shafie Apdal from the cabinet has led to Umno 'flying with only one wing'.

'The PM has shocked the rakyat'

"When the nape and shoulder (Muhyiddin and Shafie) were cut off, that means Umno now flies with only one wing," she opined.

Asked why Najib decided to make such a drastic move by removing Muhyiddin, Anina believes that it was because the prime minister wanted to defend his position.

"Sacking Muhyiddin is an abuse of the people's trust as well as the trust of Umno members. His decision did not please the three million Umno members that Najib claims are behind him.

"Muhyiddin was chosen by the rakyat, he was not appointed. Furthermore, he has not been charged with anything by the courts. So you have to justify his supposed mistakes," she said.

Najib's decision to reshuffle his cabinet as well as to transfer top officers from the MACC did not only shock the rakyat but also frightened the three million Umno members, she added.

"Many people love Umno. I say all these things because I love Umno. It's just that the rakyat's confidence has eroded due to the leaders who have not been transparent.

"Scaring the MACC and reshuffling the cabinet have shocked the rakyat as well as Umno members. Of course, Umno members are scared," she said.

However, Anina remains confident that she would not be stripped of her party membership for strongly voicing out her opinions.

Should she be stripped of her Umno membership for 'speaking the truth for the country's future', Anina said, it would be a worthwhile cause.

"Yes, I will accept it because I did it (admonished Najib) to save Umno and Malaysia. Not to save a president who is up to no good and who is not accepted by the rakyat," she said.
