Following the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) crackdown in Sarawak, an Umno division leader also wants the commission to investigate the aides of Umno ministers.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, he told
that some of these political and private secretaries are living beyond their means.
"Where did they get the income to live in such luxury. What are their other sources of income," he asked.
"They have luxurious houses, which I don't think they can afford with their salaries.
"Rumours has it that they get 'favours' for arranging certain people to meet their bosses," he added.
The Umno leader even named several of the alleged persons whom he suspected to be on the take.
is witholding their names.
He also disclosed that these included secretaries in the Prime Minister's Department.
The Umno leader said action must be taken as these individuals who are putting the party in a bad light.
"They are destroying Umno," he stressed, adding that perhaps they should be instructed to make a public declaration of assets.
In the past, MACC
charged Hasbie Satar
), the ex- political secretary to former second finance minister Mohamed Nor Yakcop, with money laundering.
Yesterday, MACC issued a statement that it had
frozen the accounts
of a Sarawak assistant minister amounting to RM4 million.
MACC's director of investigations Mohamad Jamidan Abdullah yesterday also revealed that a Sarawak assemblyperson's account was also frozen.
In total, the commission froze 30 bank accounts amounting to RM600 million following a raid conducted in 50 locations including Bakun for alleged illegal logging.
