KUCHING: PKR has welcomed Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s recent remark that members of the opposition in the state were not his enemies.
Its deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also Selangor Menteri Besar, described the Chief Minister’s remark, which was made during an interview by TV1, as “something very positive” for the state.
“I, on behalf of PKR, welcome his statement as it is something very positive. Opposition members are also people and citizens of the state,” he said at the launching of PKR Petra Jaya Elections Operations Room on Sunday.
Azmin, however, cautioned that Adenan’s remarks alone did not represent the stand of the Barisan Nasional (BN).
“We feel that the whole BN should have the same stand as Adenan.”
In this context, Azmin, who is also Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman and Gombak MP, believed that PKR and BN could work together on common ground as long as it is on the principle of justice.
While acknowledging the commitment by Adenan to transform Sarawak for the better, he said Adenan could not do it alone and required the support of everyone.
In his speech, state PKR chairman Baru Bian urged Petra Jaya folk to strive for change in the next state election.
“If the people of Padungan, Batu Kawah, and Bandar Kuching can make the change, why not you?”
He took the opportunity to praise the Selangor state exco members who came for the event, describing them as “young, energetic leaders who currently run the richest state in Malaysia”.
“In PKR, everyone is well represented, and we have members from all the races in the country. Just remember that your voice will be well represented.”
State PKR deputy chairman Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh, vice-chairman See Chee How, and Krian assemblyman Ali Biju were present.
