Zahid: Umno will respect 'Sarawak for Sarawakians'

Umno vice president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Umno will respect Sarawak's "political mould", in an what appears to be a recognition of Sarawak BN's apprehension towards Peninsula Malaysia-based BN component parties encroaching into the state.
"Any transition of power (in Sarawak) will follow the state's law and follow the existing tradition based on Sarawak's political mould.
"This will be respected by all BN component parties including Umno," he told a press conference in Kuching today.
Umno has representation in all Parliamentary constituencies in Malaysia except Sarawak, which is run by locally formed parties that later became Sarawak BN.
On Sunday, outgoing Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud had urged party members to ensure that the state remains in the hands of Sarawakians.
This, PBB leaders had said, can be seen as a "keep Umno out" call.
