Rafizi to Najib: Postpone appointing S'wak governor
1:29PM Feb 25, 2014
PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli has cautioned that Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud - if appointed governor - would exert influence similar to Dr Mahathir Mohamad as premier.
"Najib (Abdul Razak) already (faces) the trouble of Mahathir hassling him. He should pity whoever comes after Taib (as CM). He would not want another Mahathir," Rafizi said today.
Since retiring in 2003, Mahathir has maintained a presence in government events and spoken out about the administration of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib.
Rafizi later submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister's Office, urging Najib to at least "suspend temporarily" the process of appointing the new Sarawak governor.
He had earlier lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in relation to timber permits issued by the Sarawak government to Japanese shipping companies in 1983.
Rafizi, who was accompanied by PKR's Batu Lintang assemblyperson See Chee How, added that the MACC should also probe Taib's family members for alleged corruption.
