PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s excessive spending is akin to being in cahoots with the devil , said Temerloh MP Nasrudin Hasan Tantawi of PAS.
“Being a spendthrift is akin to being a related to the Satan. It is forbidden by Allah as stated in the Quran,” said the PAS leader in response to a report by an Indonesian news portal, Merdeka.com.
The report places Najib among the top five most spendthrift political leaders as he had spent Ind Rp 2.5 trillion on consultation fees to foreign experts.
Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe spent Ind Rp 11.8 million for his 90th birthday celebration. Former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi is recorded to have spent Ind Rp 54.3 million.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un spent up to Ind Rp 8.4 trillion and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu makes the list with an expenditure of Ind Rp 294.2 million.
Nasrudin said that the excessive expenditure is well known as seen in Najib’s wife, Rosmah Mansor’s extravagant overseas trips.
Padang Serai MP N Surendran meanwhile criticised Najib’s spendthriftness as obscene.
“The excessive spending is totally obscene. Where are the funds coming from and where is it going?” he asked.
“Leaders like Najib spend money like water and yet tell the people to tighten their belts in times of economic hardship,” the PKR leader added .
