KUCHING: Ba Kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian has called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to be more transparent and sincere in dealing with the ‘Allah’ issue.
He said the prime minister and other cabinet ministers were intensely trying to mislead and pacify Sabahans and Sarawakians by saying that the ban does not apply to Sarawak and Sabah.
“If you are lawyers, you’ll understand that the decision that comes out from the court becomes a precedent to the lower courts, more so if it is from the higher courts such as the Court of Appeal (COA) and Federal Court,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Baru, who is also state PKR chairman and a lawyer, said the COA decision would not only have binding effect throughout the country but would also be persuasive to the decisions to be made by the courts in other Commonwealth countries.
He hoped that there would be a full bench sitting in the Federal Court proceeding, to listen to the appeal on the case because it is an issue of fundamental rights.
On the issue that the government had banned certain words to be used in certain states, he said if the government was serious about resolving the matter, they should withdraw the ban, including the word ‘Allah’.
