KUCHING: Make this general election a clean and non-violent exercise without resorting to slander or seditious statements, urged PKR.
Its state election director See Chee How called on campaigners from Barisan Nasional, including ministers, to refrain from making statements which threatened voters and could incite hatred among the people.
He lodged a police report yesterday against Second Resource Planning and Environment Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan for making “slanderous and seditious statements” in his speech at Kampung Rayang, Serian, on Friday.
In the speech, which was carried on the front page of a local daily, Tengah said it was important for the bumiputra community to defend their special rights to native customary rights (NCR) land.
He was reported as saying that if Pakatan Rakyat became the government, its policy would be to introduce the “Malaysian Malaysia” concept which abolished the rights to NCR ownership.
See, who is state PKR vice-chairman and Batu Lintang assemblyman, said it appeared that Tengah was making an accusation that the victory of Pakatan political parties would cause the abolishment of NCR.
“This is untrue as Pakatan is the only coalition which openly declared its fullest support to defend and restore NCR in accordance with the judicious decision of the courts, including the recognition of NCR overpemakai menoa and pulau, in accordance with the adat of the various indigenous communities in Sarawak,” he said.
