Lawyers representing Shahnaz A Majid have obtained an interim order requiring her ex-husband Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, the Sarawak chief minister's son, to pay maintenance fees exceeding RM902,000.

The money is for the couple's son, covering such expenses as board, lodging and food over the period of his pre-university studies in the UK since the couple's divorce two years ago.

The Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court made the order today when granting the ex-parte application by Shahnaz.

NONEJudge Mohd Amran Mat Zain  also ordered Mahmud (right)to pay the sum within 12 days from today.

The couple were divorced on May 11, 2011.

Shahnaz, submitted her application earlier this month, saying she has been paying the fees and cost of lodging, clothing and transportation of their son because the money had not been forthcoming from Bekir.

This application is different from the RM121 million claim for child maintenance which she is also seeking, to cover the son's studies until he completes his doctoral degree.

Shahnaz is represented by Akbardin Abdul Kader and Rafie Mohd Shafie.

Also pending are decisions on her claim to mutaah (gift) and on the division of assets worth RM400 million.

The case was to have been heard today and tomorrow, but has been postponed because the presiding judge is on leave.
The hearing will resume on March 13 and 14.
