Bruno Manser Fund to launch campaign against Taib corruption dams

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear friends,

We would like to inform you that the Bruno Manser Fund is about to launch an international campaign against the construction of twelve new hydropower dams in the Malaysian state of Sarawak on Borneo.

The campaign's goal is to stop the construction of the planned Baram, Balleh, Limbang, Tutoh and other dams as planned by the Sarawak state government. In our opinion, corruption by Sarawak Chief Minister Taib Mahmud is the main driver behind the planned dams. The Taib family controls the Sarawak construction sector and holds a cement monoply in the East Malaysian state.

A campaign website, www.stop-corruption-dams.org, will go online on Wednesday 15th February 2012. It will contain a number of interactive elements.

The launching of the new campaign coincides with a Sarawak state-wide conference which will be held in Miri, Sarawak, from 16th to 18th February 2012, organized by the Save Sarawak Rivers Network.

With kind regards,
Your BMF campaign team
